DESCRIPTION
The Porsche 718 RSK Spyder was built primarily as a racing machine between 1957 and 1962. It was a development of the hugely successful and better known Porsche 550A. The original cars were known as the "Silver Bullets' and were powered by a 1.5 litre quad-cam engine that pushed out around 142bhp, that may not sound much nowadays but the 718 weighed practically nothing so it was mighty quick! These were world beating racing machines and the original cars are now extremely rare and very expensive. It became an ideal candidate for several manufacturers to produce "replicas', since a very smart body could be mated with the chassis and running gear from the relatively humble but plentiful VW Beetle. The result is a sensibly priced, surprisingly rapid and very nimble little "Silver Bullet'!
The 1969 718 Replica we have here is an excellent example of a well thought out and well executed "Replica'. This is a newly built car with 95% of the parts either being new or reconditioned. The history file has a full list of all the new parts that were used. The engine is the well proven 1,641cc version from the 1969 donor car and it has also been totally reconditioned. As a result, the car will now run happily on unleaded fuel.
The paintwork is new and to a very high standard as is the interior. It comes with four new tyres, 12 months MoT and, as a bonus, it is also exempt from Road Tax.
This will give the new owners hours of fun and will certainly attract attention. Your cataloguer drove a similar car recently and found the handling to be "interesting' but more importantly he could not wipe the smile of his face!
