DESCRIPTION
The Delage type DE was produced between 1921 and 1923. The car featured a 4-cylinder side-valve 2.1 litre engine developing 32bhp at 2,650 rpm. The transmission was mated to a four-speed gearbox and incorporated an innovative multiplate clutch mechanism. The chassis boasted 4-wheel brakes with Perrot shaft linkage. In total 3,600 examples were manufactured. The Delage Club records state that a mere 65 examples are known to have survived worldwide. This specific DE was first registered in December 1920 and is believed to be one of the cars exhibited at the 1921 Paris Salon. The charming wooden coachwork was crafted by Miller of Paris and remains in lovely order. In 1947 the car was sold as a one-owner car from new with 12,000 miles and was unused since 1927.
Purchased by a Mr P. Hampton, he used the car daily and brought the mileage up to 24,800 miles before it was sold to a local dealer. PM 9242 then found its way to Pennsylvania, U.S.A, where it formed part of the William Klein collection. It was then sold in 1976 with the break-up of the collection and made its way to Florida. Returning to the UK in 1980, this superb car has had a further five owners. Presented in original order throughout and running and driving, this very exclusive motor car offers affordable pre-war motoring just in time for summer.
