DESCRIPTION
The Ford Model A was produced between 1927-1931 and became Ford's second successful production model. It had been preceded by the Ford Model T which had revolutionised production techniques and had given Ford a march on their competitors in the Twenties. Although produced for only three years the production numbers were impressive with figures reaching two million by July 1929 and with a design that would endure in American folk-law for decades with Hot Rodders and Customisers.Offered today is a 1929 Ford Pick-up that was custom built by American experts at the 'Adult Toy Factory' of Las Cruces in New Mexico. Our vendors purchased the Ford from a dealer in Texas who was selling it on behalf of a local film director and they shipped it back to the UK in 2007. They then set about a total restoration and painstakingly produced a vehicle that embodied the very best of everything available with, importantly, the 'American' seal of approval. The body work was completely stripped, prepared and painted by renowned experts RW Masters of Littlehampton. Much of the bodywork is original, incorporating the 1930/31 steel cab and chassis but with customised GRP wings. The body finishing touches were applied by Neil Melliard who produced the unique 'Ghost Flame' effect and pin-stripping.The engine was built by the late John Lingenfelder. It is based on a small block Chevy 350ci V8 and supercharged with a BDS 691 blower it produces 589 bhp. It is fitted with twin Holley carburettors. The gearbox is a GM Turbo 350 automatic with Lokar 2500 stall shifter and brake line lock. The front suspension is independent and the rear 4 bar set-up locates to the custom made 9 inch Ford axle with a 3:55 final drive and limited slip diff. The exhaust is stainless with Procar manifolds. In addition to the standard 12 gallon fuel tank there is a secondary 11 gallon polished aluminium mounted in the back. The wheels are Halibrand Legacy's on Thompson tyres. Unique to the Ford are the keyless entry Gull Wing doors. The dash is a Dakota Digital display with a loom by Ron Francis which includes a surround sound system that is "iPod ready'.
The cost to replicate this iconic Ford would be many thousands above the guide price, importantly all the correct people have had an involvement in creating this stunning pick-up.
