1948 Daimler DB18 Saloon

This charming Daimler DB18, in British Racing Green coachwork, was completed in 1947 to a most exceptional quality by renowned coachbuilders, Barker & Co. r effort. Finally completed and registered in June 1948 with the license plate CDO 252 which it retains to this day. This delightful DB18 boasts an unrepeatable patina without appearing scruffy.

Following the end of the War, Daimler cars continued production of its DB18 model featuring traditional hallmarks like the famous radiator grill. The DB18 used a 6 cylinder 2.5 litre power-plant complemented by a four speed gearbox.

This DB18 lived in a garage for forty years until, after a family wedding in 1994, many hours of restorative works were undertaken, the results of which is still evident today. The bodywork has been repainted and polished to as near to its originality as possible. A new interior roof lining was fitted to counter sagging, but the remainder of the interior remains true to 1948, albeit regularly cleaned and maintained. New rear wheel arch seals have been fitted and the undersides of all four mudguards have been cleaned, sealed and repainted. The chassis has been wire brushed and undercoated with black chassis paint. A new 12 volt battery has been fitted, and the battery leads and terminal ends cleaned to ensure a good connection. New valves have been fitted to enable the Daimler to run on modern unleaded petrol. Further details of the full restoration works are available to view at the sale.

Our vendor, the fourth keeper of this car and custodian since May 1974, has ensured that the car has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, also that nuts and bolts etc have been greased. He has even made sure that the exterior has been regularly cleaned and polished thus preserving years of history to this day.
