SUMMARY

A second-generation 14HP from 1954 and, effectively, one-family owned from new.

DESCRIPTION

  • The 14HP Leaf was the most numerous of all Lea-Francis models with just over 2,000 being built between 1946 and 1954
  • The chassis was modified in late 1949 with independent front suspension combined with hydro-mechanical brakes, replacing the beam axle and Girling rod brakes and the headlights were now built into the wings
  • The 14HP, 4-Light Saloon (as here) was unusual for using a stressed-skin construction with aluminium on a mainly wooden frame, with a steel floor, giving a weight of only 25cwt.
  • Construction of all cars finished at the end of 1953 so PHP 377 was one of the last built
  • With the car is an Advice Note and a Car Acceptance form from Lea-Francis Cars Ltd confirming that the car was used as a factory demonstrator until being sold to our vendor's mother on 30th September 1954
  • It was finished in 'Maroon with Beige Upholstery' but is now presented in an attractive shade of blue. The original gently-patinated beige seating remains but the armrests and door cards are much newer
  • When the car passed to our vendor from his mum, he didn't change the logbook so it continues to display one name
  • An overdrive was fitted some years ago at a cost of over £2K
  • The car is in regular use and completed a round trip of 170 miles in late August
  • This is an interesting post-war classic with great history and would be welcome at any event run by the friendly Lea-Francis Owners' Club
