DESCRIPTION
The MG T series included the TA, TB, TC, TD, and TF Midget models, a range of body-on-frame convertible sports cars produced in a sequence from 1936 to 1955. The last of these models, the TF as offered for sale here, was replaced by the MGA in 1955/56.
The TF was launched in October 1953 and was a well-received. It was a face lifted version of the TD model that shared the basically the same TD Mark II engine that was uprated to 1250 cc and 57.5bhp. In addition it boasted headlights that were faired into the front wings, a sloping radiator grille that concealed a separate radiator and a new pressurised cooling system along with a simulated external radiator cap. In mid-1954 the bore of the engine was increased and as a result the capacity went up to 1466cc. That car was designated TF1500 and was externally distinguished by a cream background enamel nameplate on the sides of the bonnet placed just to the rear of the forward bonnet release-buttons. Just 9,602 TFs had been manufactured, including two prototypes and 3,400 TF1500s when production ended in April 1955 and the new MGA took up the reins for the popular British Motor Corporation.
The delightful and bright 1954 model TF offered we have here has been the subject of significant recent restorative work that is of an impressive standard. It is unusual to see a car of this age in such pleasing structural and cosmetic condition. Additionally the April 2012 invoice of £2,395.00 to undertake an engine rebuild gives the driver a mechanical confidence in its 1250cc powerplant that is not always matched by many other near-60 year old cars.
Finished in a light Burgundy colour with beautiful cream interior, this includes professionally retrimmed seats, door cards, all-new carpet throughout, including on the rear parcel shelf and a brand new hood & frame, plus side screens. There is also an additional wet weather tonneau with centre zip. The colour scheme is tasteful and attracts admiring looks whenever she's driven. New wire wheels, bright chrome work, all-round good paintwork, a desirable license plate, a large history file containing various original documents and numerous recent invoices complete the package offered by this pretty little car.
Sensibly guided against lesser examples in the marketplace today, '92 CYX' has massive kerb appeal and will no doubt strike a nostalgic note when offered for sale at Race Retro on February 23rd...
