DESCRIPTION

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances this car has been regretfully withdrawn

Jaguar cars launched the XK140 at the London Motor Show in October 1954 with a raft of improvements over its predecessor- the XK 120. The styling was improved with a revised grill, larger bumpers along with new rear lights which now incorporated the indicators. The handling was enhanced by rack and pinion steering and telescopic dampers. The interior space was improved allowing the addition of occasional rear seats.

It was now a real tourer with plenty of power from the 3.4 twin overhead camshaft six-cylinder engine, which had powered Jaguar to victory at Le Mans in '51 and '53. A 'Special Equipment' model could be ordered from the factory, which came with chrome wire wheels and Lucas fog lights. With the option of the 'C' Type cylinder head, 210 bhp was now available and coupled to the Moss close ratio gearbox, it made the XK140 one of the fastest and most stylish modes of transport available. As only 843 right hand drive cars in total were made, it was very exclusive too.

This beautiful original Right hand drive XK140 was delivered new in 1955 bearing the registration number WTN 533 from the Fox & Hounds garage in Stannington. The car was bought by a wealthy engineer and after much deliberation, mostly concerning the radio, which at the time represented a whopping 10% of the total price.

The car was only ever used the car for 'high days and holidays' with the exception of a trip to Italy. On the way to Italy a stop was made to the Jaguar factory in Coventry due to a particularly stiff 2nd gear. Not only did Jaguar fix the problem, but also put the couple up for the night and re-lined the boot to US specification as a gesture of goodwill - a very different age for sure!

In 1963 business was booming and the owner moved his engineering business in to a new factory. The first occupant was the XK, which at the time need some remedial work, and as such was parked by the factory heat so it could be worked on in comfort. Then the machines started arriving and the car was boxed in and forgotten about until 1979.

The original owner passed away in 1979 and the car was registered in his wife's name until his nephew bought it in 1979. He then recovered it from the factory after having to move two rather large lathes out of it's way! He then set about recommissioning the car back to running order which involved a full brake refurbishment and some engine fettling. From years of standing in a working factory, despite being under cover, the paintwork had become dull so the decision was made to repaint the car retaining it's original colour at the same time. It soon became evident that the long term storage had been detrimental to the engine and in 1982 it was completely overhauled by Osselli Engineering.

In 2007 the decision was made to sell the car and our current vendor, who has used the car only on sunny weekends, purchased it. He replaced the original steel wheels and spats for sporting chrome wire wheels. However, the original spats and wheels are present with the vehicle.

Recent remedial work overhauling the brakes and giving the car a through service/inspection insures that this lovely old XK still in the classic colour combination of Grey with Burgundy hide is now ready to be enjoyed by the next generation of motoring enthusiast.
