DESCRIPTION
Chevrolet made the news with a nicely restyled body in 1956, while the model series with the number identifications 150, 210 were carried over unchanged. The Stovebolt six remained standard and the coveted 265 V-8 was again an option. But power-hungry buyers were treated to an even greater V-8, first in the form of the "Super Turbo-Fire" 265, which was rated at a then-hefty 205 horses. This "smoking' small-block was followed in January 1956 by a dual-carburettor option, a 225-horse power screamer borrowed from the Corvette; 60 mph from rest required a scant 8.9 seconds, a sensational achievement for the day, especially at the price, $2,450. A stylish four-door hardtop model joined the Bel Air line-up in 1956, bringing the body style count to seven. Along with the classic two-door Nomad wagon, repeat styles included two and four-door sedans, two-door hardtops and convertibles, and a four-door station wagon.
We are informed that this beautiful 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe was originally rebuilt to concours condition back in the United States regardless of cost; the restoration was carried out by a recognised classic Chevrolet specialist in New Jersey and as such has been finished to an incredibly high standard. (Please see history file for full specification).
The Tahitian Blue and Silverstone Silver Metallic paintwork can only be described as flawless, we are told this fabulous car was subsequently sold by the famous US auction house 'Barrett Jackson' back in 2005 at which point it was then exported to the UK. By the time all the charges had been paid we are told that the then owner had parted with the best part of £117,000. Bearing this figure in mind this beautiful American classic car represents somewhat of a bargain at Silverstone Auctions.
