1958 BMW R26

Introduced in 1956, the BMW R26 is a single-cylinder, four-stroke, OHV, shaft drive, touring 250 and was in production from 1956 to 1960. With an output of 15bhp and weighing in at 350lbs, performance could be described as 'steady' but its outstanding characteristics are its excellent riding comfort, superb steering, smooth powerful braking, good fuel economy and fine standard of engineering, detail design and finish.

According to 'The Motor Cycle' in period ''A quiet, lively and economical roadster with first-class springing, steering and braking, and a high standard of finish''.

Offered here is a fine example, fully restored to a high level of finish, in what appears to be mostly original specification. Engine numbers correlate to the frame number and the bike is accompanied by a history file including original log-book, current V5c, invoices for parts, two workshop manuals, one of which could be original, and a wealth of old MOTs dating back to the '80s.

On offer from a private collection, this is an elegant, stylish and well-engineered classic motorcycle. Looking through the history file, it appears that this classic BMW motorcycle was in regular use from the late '80s up to quite recently. Before it sets off on its next adventure it will require a 'spanner check', however, we understand that even after some time stored in a private collection, with a little fresh fuel the R26 fired into life on the second kick.
