1958 Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe

The XK120 was launched in 1948 and it was an international sensation immediately, finally putting Jaguar on the world stage, and it's racing derivatives would see the beginning of a hugely successful period for the company. The XK150 was the final incarnation of the XK range, appearing in May 1957, and was a more refined and capable machine than its predecessors. Easily distinguishable from the 140 by its higher scuttle and door line, wider grille and improved interior space, the 150 however, retained much of the mechanical layout of the earlier car sharing the same 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight-six, developing 180bhp at 5750rpm. "The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world's fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable... we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money," concluded The Autocar.First rebuilt by Classic Cars International in 1989 after purchase from the Isle of Wight, and in current ownership where it has remained since 2009 the car has, once again, been subjected to extensive work by recognised Jaguar XK specialists Twyford Moors Motor Company. These works included the fitting of a replacement Jaguar XK140 engine bored nearer to 3.5litres and essentially prepared to a fast road specification but in a sympathetic and tasteful manner that hasn't altered the outward appearance of the car. Thankfully, the temptation to replace the original interior and seats with bucket style seating was resisted. The car now boasts a five speed gearbox helping to maximise the benefit from the throatier engine, electronic ignition, a Kenlowe fan for cooling and power steering.Finished in the classic colour combination of British Racing Green with Olive Green Connolly hide and shod with the very sensible option of Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres mounted on chrome wire wheels, the car can handle the additional power and looks a million dollars. The vehicle is accompanied by a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming the car to be a home market delivered, right hand drive example from new, and is further sold with a host of past invoices and correspondence, various MOTs confirming the mileage of some 85,000miles, and is now MOT exempt.
