1958/59 Tervin FJ/Monoposto

The United Kingdom has always had a great tradition of 'home made' racing cars. The FIII/500cc movement of the immediate post World War II years is perhaps the best example of this spirit influencing the world, but it is by no means the only one. 750 and 1172 formula have both led to major constructors and developers of both cars and engines, whilst also allowing the "impecunious" enthusiast the chance to have a go on the same tracks as the "big boys".

The Tervin is a perfect example of a 'home-grown' British racer. Built and raced by Tony Scrivens in the late 1950s and campaigned by him well into the 1960s, the car even featured in an extensive track test in the February 1964 edition of "Small Car" magazine and appeared to have acquitted itself well. The car would be welcomed in various events in the UK run by The Monoposto Racing Club and even, we understand, is a candidate for the Formula Junior Historic Racing Assocation's Invitation Class G.

The car had an extensive £15,000 restoration carried out on it in 2000. It is described as being extremely light in weight and is fitted, as it always has been, with a Ford 1172cc side-valve engine with Aquaplane tuning equipment and a pair of SU carbs. There are lovely period pictures in the history file and, in all honesty, this could be the steal of the auction for this or any future season.
