DESCRIPTION

This charming Beetle was supplied in Belfast by VW Dealers Isaac Agnew , in September 1959, at a cost of £716. 10s. 10d, to Mr Alexander Devon Bulloch, a local artist. Both the original order sheet, showing the Volkswagen range, and also the original invoice and receipt are retained by the vendor.Mr Bulloch used the car daily until 1993 when, through old age, he reluctantly gave up driving. The number plate carries the original Belfast area registration "3136 XI' and it remains with the car. There are handwritten notes from Mr Bulloch outlining all the maintenance history. There are also the original handbooks where Mr Bulloch has detailed a series of comments and underlined sections. By 1993 the car was looking a little tired so, under supervision of the previous keeper, it became the subject of a complete "body off' restoration which was to take 10 years. The rebuild was painstaking in its detail and is captured in a full photographic record from its original state through to the car's present condition. The engine was removed and rebuilt and is fully detailed right through to the Bosch stamped distributor, Bosch 6V sticker and the oil change labels. Particular attention was paid to retaining originality in appearance and finish throughout. All parts, including suspension, braking components, fuel tank and sundries are finished to factory specification and to an uncompromising standard. The interior was completely refurbished. The seats were re-sprung and re-trimmed along with all the carpets and door cards. The parts were supplied and matched from colour cards/swatches that came from classic VW parts supplier Wolfsburg West. The original swatch card is included amongst the history file. No radio was ever fitted and the internal instruments and switchgear, including the steering wheel, show no discernible wear and work as new. The car was rewired, but retains its original 6V electrics all of which work perfectly. Likewise, the car retains its fully functioning semaphore type "trafficators' and no modern indicators have been fitted.Following these rebuild works, the car was MoT'd in 2004 showing 61,190 original miles. Always garaged, but used sparingly since the restoration, it has always received an Mot annually. The current vendor purchased the vehicle from us in 2013 and is reluctantly offered only due to lack of space. At that time it had covered a believed genuine 63,722 and has covered 260 miles since then and only 2,500 from when the restoration was completed. Today the car remains in fabulous condition. There are some very minor imperfections to the paintwork but in all other respects the car presents and drives as new.As highlighted, the original handbook, original buff logbook and original VW key are present with the car. The photographic history details the car from Mr Bulloch's ownership through its temporary demise and subsequent rebuild. Not to be missed...
