The Austin Healey 3000 became one of the best-known British classic cars of the 1950s and 1960s following spectacular success in international rallying and circuit racing. A development of the Austin Healey 100-6, itself born of the four-cylinder 100, the 3000 was launched in March 1959 and was a significant improvement on the earlier cars featuring front disc brakes, wire wheels as standard and a more powerful (124bhp) 2,912cc BMC C-Series engine, ensuring a top speed of approximately 120mph. There was also a choice of 2-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) body styles.
This BT7 is an original right-hand drive example that has a rare aluminium body and is classically finished in Healey Ice Blue over Old English White, complemented by a blue leather interior with wool carpets and matching blue hood and tonneau. There is a large history file with the car that includes a description and sales invoice from Sussex Sportscars in 2014, summary details of the restoration work carried out ‘80-‘86 (inc.CD pictorial record), log books, MOTs (current one expires in March ’22), tax discs, annual invoices dating ’78-’10 and Austin Healey literature along with a Dennis Welch price list.
‘1900 NK’ also enjoys a ‘works-spec’ engine that was totally rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago with a Stage 2 Rawles alloy cylinder head and lightweight valve gear, four-speed manual box with overdrive. It's fitted with twin SUs, a 6-branch, stainless steel manifold and side-exit exhaust pipes in stainless steel and produces around 185bhp. The car is currently in road touring trim but comes with most parts necessary to turn it into a works-style competition car or a superb 'fast-road' car.
Also accompanying the car is a rare and desirable hardtop in OEW, matching blue hood and tonneau, and Perspex side windows. This particular car seems to tick all the boxes for any 'Big Healey' enthusiast looking for something really special.
