Contrary to previous listings this car will require UK registration by the buyer subject to a valid MOT.
In the early 1950's, a team of GM engineers, headed up by Harley Earl, went to work trying to create a car that had the appeal to compete with European sports cars. The resulting creation, dubbed the Corvette 'Dream Car', debuted at the GM Motorama Show held at the stylish Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. At the conclusion of Motorama's US tour, GM stated that over four million people had seen the car with the majority expressing a desire to get behind the wheel of the new Corvette. The first true American sports car was born.
Intended as competition for the T-Series MG, the Corvette cost way above the target figure, ending up in Jaguar XK120 territory but with decidedly less performance. Sales were sluggish initially and the model came close to being axed, surviving thanks to Chevrolet's need to compete with Ford's Thunderbird. A V8 engine for 1955 and a radical restyle for 1956 consolidated the Corvette's position in the market, the model going on to become the world's best-selling and longest-lived sports car.
This lovely Corvette was built in 1960 and sourced directly in the United States in 2015 with UK registration pending with the DVLA. It is finished in Ermine White with a matching hardtop, white soft top and red interior. It's described as being in “show condition” and is a two-time winner of Cherry's Jubilee Event, Monterey. We believe the mileage of some 14,000 miles at the time of cataloguing may be due to “zeroing” of the odometer at the time of the restoration. Some would argue the car is a resto-mod with the fitment of the 383 NASCAR stroker engine which is mated to a Jerico 4-speed transmission. It is also fitted with Wildwood discs, Carrera adjustable coil-over shocks and ceramic coated headers.
Beautifully presented and totally evocative of the early Sixties, this is a stunning and truly unique show-winning car from a carefully curated collection.
