DESCRIPTION
The XK120 was launched in 1948 and it was an international sensation. The XK finally put Jaguar on the world stage and the racing derivatives would see the beginning of a hugely successful period for the company. The XK150 was the final incarnation of the XK and it appeared in May 1957. A more refined and capable machine than its predecessors, the 150 was easily identifiable by its higher scuttle and door line, wider grille and improved interior space. However, the XK150 retained much of the mechanical layout of the XK140 sharing the same 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight-six, which developed 180bhp at 5750rpm. "The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world's fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable... we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money,' concluded The Autocar.
Used regularly until 1995/1996, this righthand drive XK150 equipped with the desirable manual/overdrive gearbox was seemingly then stored until a complete restoration by marque specialists Robinson & Goodwin of Grismby was commissioned and completed in 2002/03 at a cost of more than £30,000. We understand that the car was stripped down to the chassis and then rebuilt, with everything that required replacement being replaced. Works carried out included reconditioning the engine and fitting a new clutch, while improvements include larger front brake discs, the fitment of a Kenlowe electric cooling fan and a CD player. On completion the then owner took the XK to Altea on the Costa Blanca, reporting that it 'drove like a dream'.
Our vendor acquired the car in September 2011 where it became part of his large private collection. It has been used only sparingly but has been enjoyed. This car could be described as being in generally very good order, though in our opinion, could benefit from attention to the paint which has cracked on the bonnet. Finished in Black with Grey leather interior, the car is offered with sundry restoration invoices, current MoT and Swansea V5C.
