1960 Triumph TR3A

The Triumph TR3A was built between 1957 and 1961 and boasted a number of cosmetic upgrades from the standard TR3. These included a wider front grill incorporating indicators, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and an improved interior. With the TR3A Triumph were genuinely able to rival MG and Jaguar offering practical 100mph-plus performance at a reasonable price. Consequently, the TR3A was a huge success for Triumph selling 58,236 examples, mainly to foreign buyers. However, it is believed that only 10,000 of the original 58,000 built are on the road today.

This pretty TR3A from 1960 was originally manufactured for the North American Export market, leaving the UK production line to make its journey to Los Angeles, California. Originally sporting Powder Blue paintwork the car was specified with disc wheels, heater, tonneau, hood stick cover and 5.90-15 tyres. After a lengthy period in the United States the car was believed to have been repatriated back to the UK in the early 2000's by Chestnut Classics of Stamford, Lincolnshire who set upon a thorough restoration of the now Green car. A full photographic record of the rebuild accompanies the car and clearly shows the detail of this restoration. The works have been completed to a very high standard which is still evident when you see the car today.

In May 2005 this car was sold privately whereupon some monies were spent with Simon J Robinson Classic Cars of Darlington to address the fuel pump, points (front & rear), suspension strip down & rebuild, wheel bearing alteration and steering column adjustment. More recently, in May 2010, the car was once again overseen by specialists, Classic Marques of Norfolk, to re-wire the overdrive, replace coolants, filters & hoses, plus tune the engine which results in the car today being in exemplary mechanical order to match its cosmetic condition.
