SUMMARY
A beautiful, European-delivered, Series 1, 'Flat-floor' Roadster with matching numbers and many features unique to the early cars.
DESCRIPTION
- Delivered new to Italy in left-hand drive, this 1961 Series 1 3.8-litre, flat- floor roadster has been beautifully restored with superb attention to detail
- Presented in British Racing Green with a tan leather interior and black fabric hood
- Retaining unique features including, no-heel well floors, EBL fixings in inner sills, twin boot hinges and welded bonnet louvres
- The engine, head & gearbox numbers match the Jaguar Heritage Certificate on file
Offered here is a lovely, early Series 1 ‘Flat Floor’ E-Type Roadster that has been carefully restored to a high standard whilst preserving many of the special features unique to the ‘first batch’ manufactured by Jaguar in the models first year of production. According to the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate, this example was manufactured in September 1961 and dispatched in October to be supplied new in Rome by Fattori & Montani. Chassis 875594 returned to the UK in 2013, shortly after its restoration, and was enjoyed for a number of years before further work to make the car more useable was commenced in 2019. It's believed that this Roadster had been supplied with a factory hard-top, that pleasingly still remains with the car, but no hood which was fairly common on cars sold in Italy, so our vendor took the decision to install a hood-frame with new black fabric hood to deal with the vagaries of the British weather.
It's classically presented in gleaming British Racing Green with a detailed Tan leather interior and the factory, colour-matching hardtop. This example would have been one of the very first Roadsters manufactured with internal bonnet locking mechanisms and the external bonnet lock fixings remain in the inner sills, considered a good early feature if present, along with flat floors, welded bonnet louvers and twin boot hinges. We are informed by our vendor that the car starts on-the-button, performs as well as it looks and is a matching numbers example.
This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a very special Series 1 E-Type, carefully restored, retaining early features, with matching numbers and in great colours. A desirable model and pleasingly still in its original configuration of left-hand drive so ideal for European tours or a holiday home perhaps, and when the time comes to sell this rare Jaguar, the market for left-hand drive cars is considerably larger.
This is a rare car and as an early, flat floor, matching numbers, 3.8 Roadster that has been fully restored, may turn out to be a very sensible investment.
