DESCRIPTION
Jaguar's first chassisless saloon remains a style icon. From the elegant cat leaping over the no-nonsense chrome grill to the tapering tail, this classic design embodied a new era when it was launched as the MKI in 1955. Four years later it metamorphosed into the MK2, appealing to a younger, more sophisticated market. The new car had disc brakes all round, a wider rear track, larger windows, slimmer pillars and more grunt if you opted for the potent 3.8 litre engine. Today the cars raffish appeal is undiminished and an entire industry has grown up to support MK2 owners.
This stunning MKII Jaguar has been in the hands of the same owner since its importation into the UK from South Africa back in 1986. The car was then subject to an incredible 18 year nut and bolt restoration by a Jaguar specialist which was finally finished in 2004. Since then it has lived the life of luxury in a temperature controlled garage and has only been driven to and from its annual MOT inspection accumulating only 750 miles. A heritage certificate confirms this car to be a matching numbers vehicle.
The vendor informs us that the 6 cylinder engine fires instantly and drives without fault, there's plenty of performance on tap and the taught suspension along with the LSD works perfectly and hugs the road yet the ride is supple with excellent body control coupled to sharp steering. The lever on the moss box moves nicely through the gears and the eager twin cam engine pulls along with a terrific induction roar.
The bodywork is flawless with a mirror like finish to the beautiful deep red paintwork. The vendor informs us that the car is as clean underneath as it is on top and was treated to plenty of wax oil. The chrome bumpers and trim are all excellent and most of the rubber trim has also been replaced. The stunning chrome wire wheels are in beautiful condition and are shod with quality rubber to all 4 corners.
Internally the car has been completely re trimmed to keep everything close to original looking as possible, new carpets and headling have also been fitted, all gauges and switchgear work perfectly to make this cabin a beautiful place to be.
The vendor informs us that driving in town or on a run is a pleasure, enjoying the exhausts note as it reverberates off surrounding buildings, it's a tremendously balanced car with superb steering and a general feeling of nimble tautness. Sold with a fresh MOT this incredible car has a decidedly wicked nature and is highly addictive. There's only one way to sum up its character: devilishly brute-iful.
