1962 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible

After 14 years and with over a million units sold, Morris decided that final major upgrades to the Minor should be made in 1962. Although the name Minor 1000 was retained, the changes were sufficient for the new model to be given its own ADO development number. A larger version of the existing A-Series engine had been developed in conjunction with cylinder head specialist Harry Weslake for the then new ADO16 Austin/Morris 1100 range. This new engine used a taller block to the 948cc unit, with increased bore and stroke bringing total capacity up to 1098cc.

This attractive soft top was "born' in 1962 and has spent the majority of its life in Yorkshire. The second owner, an elderly lady, used her for a weekly local shopping trip and owned the car for over a quarter of a century. The current owner inherited the car two years ago and "Mildred' - as she's affectionately named - came South for sunnier climes (apparently!) where she has covered a minimal mileage - mainly a weekly trip in the summer to the local cricket ground.

With a genuine odometer reading of a little over 14,000 and a full 12 months tax and MoT, this characterful vehicle is packed full of head-turning "Englishness'. Though "Mildred' might benefit from a replacement vinyl hood (current cost £325) and some new carpets, she is in remarkably good original shape and the current owner has no knowledge of any major repairs or restoration.
