DESCRIPTION

Fiat, long known for producing inexpensive, efficient cars, surprised the automotive community in 1957 with a 500 model that was even smaller than its predecessor, the Topolino. Designed by Dante Giacosa, the 500 Nuova, or 'Cinquecento', much like the Volkswagen Beetle, featured an economical rear-engine design purpose-built for practicality.

Initially introduced with a 479cc two-cylinder engine, the Cinquecento lived through various technical modifications over the course of its healthy 18-year production run but styling remained essentially unchanged. The Nuova, with its sunroof that extended the entire length of the car, was replaced in 1960 with the 500D. The primary difference between the two was a larger 499cc engine, previously used on the Sport models, which produced an additional 4 horsepower. The rear-hinged doors and basic design remained the same, however. The diminutive 500D was very enjoyable to drive and, above all, tremendously practical.

If you've ever fancied owning a classic Fiat 500 then this restored 500D showing 77808 miles might just be what you are looking for, we are informed by the vendor that the Fiat Red paint is all but flawless in appearance with absolutely no signs of corrosion on the bodywork and all panels align superbly. BOC 973A was the subject of a total restoration in 2009 by MC Incar Specialist of Peterborough, the attention to detail that went into this restoration is truly incredible, all corroded metal work was cut away and replaced, new panels were fitted where possible and then undersealed and wax oiled. The shiny bits have been re chromed or replaced and the restorer has taken many pictures of the fresh metal and paint preparation.

Likewise, the attention to detail has been carried over in the powertrain of this little Fiat with the fitting of a larger 650cc engine, it is reported that the engine was completely stripped and rebuilt as was the gearbox, and as such this little Fiat fires up immediately from cold and soon settles to a smooth and typically chatty idle. These tiny engines love to be revved and it pulls like an eager puppy all the way through the gears. However, this car is not about speed it's about charisma and style and this car has it in abundance. A brand new interior was fitted, the front and back seats are in perfect shape and the car benefits from the the fitting of seatbelts both front and rear.

BOC 973A looks small and cute from the outside and with the fitting of its suicide doors and fold back full roof this little car takes Italian coolness to a whole new level. The length and expense the previous owner has gone to in making this car as good as this shine through. Among the extensive photos and A4 binder report of the rebuild is a detailed breakdown of just what has gone into bringing this car back to the condition it is in today and conformation of a build cost of a cool £15,700.00. We are informed there is even a letter from the Fiat Historical Archive in Turin confirming that 110D-523264 was built at the Factory in Italy in 1963.

Sold with a new MOT, the wealth of parts that have gone into the rebuild of this stunning little car must surely offer peace of mind, it is enormous fun to drive and in beautiful condition throughout and guaranteed to grab more attention than any car from Modena could ever hope to achieve.
