1963 Lotus Cortina FIA Race Car

This original road going 1963 Ford Lotus Cortina was built and prepared for FIA saloon car racing by Guy Smith Motorsport to full FIA specification. Built with reliability and strength in mind the car was built to a 'Goodwood friendly' specification from a solid accident free shell and has run competitively and reliably in U2TC, Masters and HSCC events. Purchased by Silverstone Auctions owner, Nick Whale, the car was raced by him at the July 2013 Silverstone Classic, HSCC August Croft meeting and both Masters and U2TC races at Spa in Sep 2013, as team mate to Richard Dutton and Neil Brown. More recently in March 2014 the car was invited to and competed in the 72nd Members' Meeting at Goodwood, qualifying 7th on the competitive grid.

The car has been upgraded during 2013 with a new Neil Brown Engineering full spec engine, upgraded front damper legs, a new exhaust manifold, new springs, new starter motor, new clutch and flywheel, new tachometer etc.

The car has proved to be a competitive and highly enjoyable car that has seriously benefitted from the input and expertise of Richard Dutton and technical upgrades by Fortec Motorsport. It comes complete with FIA HTP papers and is welcome in all current UK and European series offered by the HSCC, Masters and U2TC. The car has never had an accident or a racing incident.

To access a Neil Brown Engineering built engine would be very difficult (and expensive), but to have an engine hand assembled by him personally - pretty much impossible! Yet that is exactly what is offered here, perhaps the ultimate FIA legal twin cam?!

Offered for sale because of a genuine change of plan, (Nick has recently found his old BMW M3 Group A Touring car), this car could now be serious value for money and is built to a very high specification. Not much required to make it an absolute front running FIA car (apart from a quicker driver!), it is 'on the button' and complete with FIA HTP papers and it's unique yellow stripe!
