DESCRIPTION

The story of the E-type has been told many times before, though this car has its own tale to tell...

The Jaguar offered here today is a usable and robust example that is capable of pleasurable driving on almost every occasion. It is not pretending to be a concours contender and it makes no excuse for its step away from originality but it does however offer a cost-effective entry to classic 1960's E-Type ownership. It avoids some of the stuffiness that is sometimes associated with restored cars and the relationship that their rebuilds have to the original specification. If you want a car to drive hard and enjoy, this is it.

This an unusual cross-breed between a 1963 Series 1 chassis that has subsequently been fitted with a later 4.2litre engine and Series 2 style bonnet. However ANT 227A benefits from having received consistent maintenance and expenditure all of which go to ensure that the performance remains more exciting than its cosmetic condition. Structurally it is a very sound car, what "lets it down' is its cosmetic appearance but at the same time this is exactly what's so endearing about it. Originally a 3.8litre right hand drive fixed-head coupé in Opalescent Silver Grey, it is clearly now in classic Signal Red with Black interior and boasts the bulletproof 4.2litre engine. This is mated to a precise manual gearbox and offered as a solid, usable example which could perhaps be improved with some light running restoration. ANT 227A further benefits from the professional fitment of a period Webasto sun roof by R&S Coachbuilders, Taunton in 2003.

Invoices and receipts accompanying the car trail expenditure from 2003 on elements such as the Webasto roof, shock absorbers, suspension, poly bushes, renewal of the propshaft, ball joints, wheel bearings, renewal of the alternator, fitment of a Kenlowe fan, clutch assembly, slave cylinder redress and compression testing, to a strip and rebuild of the gearbox by Klassik Transmissions of Wolverhampton in March 2008. Finally there is the purchase, testing and fitment of the 4200cc engine by VSE Jaguar Engine Specialists of Powys, Mid-Wales in May 2008 at a cost alone of over £4,400.

A taxed and tested car ready for immediate use, this charming Jaguar E-type offers you the chance to get behind the wheel of one of the world's most iconic sports cars, and even offers you the opportunity to leave your own stamp on it as you go....
