DESCRIPTION
After 14 years and with over a million units sold, Morris decided that final major upgrades to the Minor should be made in 1962. Although the name Minor 1000 was retained, the changes were sufficient for the new model to be given its own ADO internal development number. A larger version of the existing A-Series engine had been developed in conjunction with cylinder head specialist Harry Weslake for the then new ADO16 Austin/Morris 1100 range. This new engine used a taller block than the 948cc unit, with increased bore and stroke bringing total capacity up to 1098cc.
This original home-market Morris Minor Tourer can simply be described as in concours condition. A Heritage Certificate states the car was dispatched to Stuart and Ardern, London on 15th September 1963 and sold by them to its first owner under the registration CML 354A. Finished in its original colour combination of Rose Taupe with Tartan Red interior, this vehicle has undergone a major restoration to exacting period specification that simply has to be seen to be appreciated. The last owner was an elderly gentleman who decided to treat CML 354A to a ground up restoration over a two year period in 2009 after 20 years of ownership.
Every conceivable component was restored to an incredible standard by respected specialists and race preparers Classic Marques in Northern Ireland. The chassis, body shell, engine, transmission, drive, wheels and interior have all been lovingly rebuilt to better than new condition. There are four photographic albums that detail the painstaking process with over 300 photos in total. Most significantly, there are bills in the history file for over £40,000 on the restoration alone!
A total of 1,352 hours have been documented, invoiced and paid for. Every nut and bolt has been accounted for and there are subsequently three entire folders of bills and receipts accompanying this car. Completed in 2011, CML 354A has covered only 1,300 miles since. Sadly the last owner passed away recently, having only just finished running in his prized Moggie. This icon of British motoring is sure to be appreciated and enjoyed by its lucky new owner and could be exhibited globally as one of the best restored Morris Minors in the world today. Offered without reserve.
