DESCRIPTION
Fewer than 7,000 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint's were manufactured between 1962 and 1966, only 596 of these being manufactured with righthand drive steering. According to the Alfa Romeo Museum Archives the 2600 Sprint offered here today was manufactured on June 5th 1964 as a righthand drive version and painted in Light Grey with a Dark Red leather interior. It was invoiced by the factory to Alfa Romeo London on September 10th 1964 and first registered in England for road use on January 26th 1965 as "AUB 300C', retaining the same registration today..
Changes of ownership for this 50 year old car have been relatively few by comparison. The first occurred in 1972 with the car now sporting Maroon paintwork, then in 1983 after the passing of the owner his widow became the sole-keeper until sold in 1984 from her home in Harwich to Essex. In 1989 a Doctor and Alfa Romeo Club Secretary from Norfolk acquired the car and kept to until 2005 commissioning in the early 2000's a restoration and repaint of this much-loved Alfa to Metallic Silver as it wears today. Two further owners were to care for this car until acquired by our vendor in late 2012.
The 2600 Sprint engine is a 2,584cc straight six twin-cam unit which the factory reported as delivering 145bhp when new with the standard triple Solex carburettor set up. This Sprint had the popular triple Weber carburettor conversion carried out to it in March 2010. Recent engine works include a new head gasket and complete cylinder head overhaul, new piston rings were also fitted at this time, along with an overhauling of the braking system that resulted in the fitting of a brake servo and having the brake master cylinder and rear calipers rebuilt. These works totalled over £6,000 and result in the 94,000mile engine behaving itself as you would expect.
The bodywork and paint are in good condition with a few marks in various places. Were this our car, we would recommend a repaint in the next two or three years but would be proud and unashamed to use it 'as is' for the foreseeable future. The interior is wonderfully original and in very good condition with the enormous seats being extremely comfortable for long journeys.
Now offered for sale simply because central London storage for the current owner is proving uneconomical, this stately 2600 Sprint is offered with UK V5C registration document and current MOT.
