DESCRIPTION
In 1962 Ford introduced the Anglia Super to the range with a higher level of equipment. The engine was increased to 1198cc and it now came with the all synchromesh Cortina four speed gearbox. There was more chrome, luxury interior, complemented by a heater as standard. Strap on a pair of spot lights and you had a useful rally car. The engine was capable of more power and it became the mainstay of various forms of motorsport. The Ford Anglia was entered in the Monte Carlo Rally from 1960 - 65 finishing consistently above its station and today the rally and racing Anglias are still an important and competitive part of the historic scene.
Offered here is an FIA Anglia that conforms to homologation papers for a December 1964, 1200cc Ford Anglia 123E. It also has HTP papers. The extensive competition history of this car begins with successes in the UK as a rally car before being sold to the Belgian rally exponent, Patrice Wattine. It then won numerous events in the 1990's and most notably, the Picardie Rally in France. In 1994 the car returned to the UK where it continued in competitive rallying, coming runner-up in Class B in the 1997 Demon Tweeks Mobil 1 Historic Rally Championships. After another short spell in the ownership of Wattine, the Anglia returned to the UK for the last time and was re-issued with its original registration as seen today. Now set up as a race car the previous owner entered rounds in the Dunlop Thermex Championship with some success.
Once acquired by our vendor he set about rebuilding the FIA Anglia to a standard which has made it competitive in the best historic race events. The shell incorporated four new original wings and door skins and was strengthened before being painted to a high standard. The brand new Damico engine is only two races old and produces 138bhp at a conservative 7200rpm. The gearbox contains all new close ratio gears bearings and seals. Further ancillaries, exhaust, dynamo and wiring are all new. The inlet trumpet is period F3. The suspension has all been renewed or refurbished and the car corner-weighted by specialist, Alan Dent. It comes of course with its original Lotus wheels. The car is eligible for many Historic Touring Car Championships, especially the U2TC which it was built for. This is an excellent car for an invitation to The Goodwood Revival meetings. The spares comprises of a radiator, grill, rear side windows and new suspension leg. It achieved fourth place on its last outing in a 2013 Appendix 'K' Touring Car race.
This is a very reliably engineered and nimble race car capable of achieving great results in some very prestigious events for a comparatively modest outlay.
