DESCRIPTION

The Mk II Jaguar saloon, built from late 1959 until 1967and available with three engine sizes, was handsome, comfortable, powerful and handled well. The 3.8 was a quick car, even by today's standards, with 220bhp on tap, resulting in a 0-60mph time of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 125mph and, when new, was one of the fastest four door saloons available in Britain. It gained its place in our collective memory and iconic status partly from its high profile motor racing pedigree, but mainly from the large number of 60's black and white "Cops and Robbers" movies featuring "get-away drivers" in black MkIIs being chased by the Police in a white MkII. It was also the car that you might expect to see parked in the Managing Director's space in a subtle shade of Dark Green or Blue. "Grace, Pace and Space" was Jaguar's period advertising slogan, and this was absolutely epitomised by the Mk II.

This gorgeous MkII started life as a 3.8 model and in 1999 its owner decided that the time had come to restore his beloved Jaguar, and by utilising more modern technology take the car to the next level. He approached Lynx Motors of Sussex who are renowned for the quality of their restoration and re-manufacture of historically important Jaguars and their brief was to restore the car and upgrade it in a number of areas with the proviso that it still retained its original look. This they did very successfully, and an indication of the amount of work carried out is provided by invoices, which accompany the car, totaling over £100,000.

The car has been fitted with an uprated 4.2 Litre engine coupled to a more modern Jaguar XJ40 4 speed Automatic Gearbox, the suspension upgraded to Lynx Engineering standards, the brakes fully uprated and servo-assisted, and the car now sits on a set of sparkling chrome wire wheels.

In the cabin the car features upgrades in the form of Air Conditioning, power steering, electric windows, central locking, and modern style electric front seats. Of course the interior has been fully re-trimmed in Tan Leather along with having specific door cards fabricated for the car and as such retains a wonderful period look. Additional work and upgrades are too extensive to list here but the car's history file contains lots more information.

A magnificent and especially useable example of one of the 60's most iconic saloons, this gleaming white Jaguar is being offered at an attainable guide price representing just a fraction of its build cost.
