Fewer than 7,000 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprints were manufactured between 1962 and 1966, and only 596 of these were built in right-hand-drive. According to the Alfa Romeo Museum Archives, the right-hand drive 2600 Sprint offered here was manufactured on 05/06/1964 finished in light grey with a dark red leather interior. It was invoiced by the factory to Alfa Romeo London on 10/09/1964 and first registered in England on 26/01/1965 as AUB 300C, the registration it still bears today.
Changes of ownership for this 50-year old car have been relatively few with the first occurring in 1972 with the car now sporting Maroon paintwork and then, in 1983, after the owner passed away, his widow became the sole-keeper until 1984. In 1989, a Doctor and Alfa Romeo Club Secretary from Norfolk became the Alfa's proud keeper and he was to commission its restoration in the early 2000s. Two further owners were to care for this car until it was acquired by the previous vendor in 2012 who sold it through Silverstone Auctions in 2014, joining our vendor's eclectic collection of some 35 cars.
The 2600 Sprint engine is a 2,584cc straight-six, twin-cam unit which the factory reported as delivering 145bhp when new with the standard triple Solex carburettor set up. Fitted with Weber carburettors in 2010 they have been recently adjusted and tuned by DK Engineering. The bodywork and paint are in very good condition having been recently resprayed in the period-correct Alfa Romeo heritage grey. Showing just 95,000 miles at the time of cataloguing, the interior is wonderfully original and in great condition with the enormous seats being extremely comfortable for long journeys.
This 2600 Sprint is a good looking car and it wouldn't take much to bring it to the next level. Alfas from the Sixties are just so special, so Italian, so Gina Lollobrigida and everyone should own one at least once.
