1965 Ford Mustang Convertible

The Ford Mustang was conceived in the full knowledge that in the mid-'60s the biggest population bubble in history was now coming of age in America, "baby boomers' would rule the '60s and there was little or no reason to think they wanted to drive cars that were anything like the ones their parents owned.

The iconic Ford Mustang therefore created a storm when it hit the streets and it still does to this day. Ford wanted to make the Mustang affordable and therefore it needed to share much of its engineering with an existing Ford product. They decided to base the Mustang on the smallest US Ford at the time, the Falcon. The Mustang was initially offered as either a "notchback' coupé or convertible. It shared its front double-wishbone/coil spring and leaf spring rear suspension with the Falcon. Compared to the Falcon the cockpit sat further back on the chassis, resulting in a longer front end and shorter rear end design, both its roof and bonnet were also lower in comparison. It's with those proportions and detailed with such iconic touches as the galloping horse in the grille, the cut away side detailing and the rear lights divided into three sections, that the Mustang became a car that people were instantly passionate about.

Propelled by the ever popular 4,700cc 210bhp small block V8 engine and mated to a three speed manual, 'stick shift' floor transmission, not only does this car have the looks, but it has the power to match.

We understand that this car remained in single ownership for some 25 years during which time the car was sympathetically restored to a very high standard. All the panels appear very straight and the paintwork is in superb order with a deep mirror shine throughout. This Mustang has had much care and attention lavished upon it to the extent that, as offered with UK V5C and current MoT test certificate, its next lucky owner can turn the key and enjoy it as its makers intended. Within the last few months the car has had a new brake master cylinder, and the brakes themselves are as new having had new cylinders and shoes for the MoT test in May. Cosmetically, the boot space was re-carpeted with matching spare wheel cover and the underside which is in excellent condition was treated with waxoyl. The car is reported to drive very well with no nasty rattles or bangs. It is said to drive and stop in a straight line, and is only reluctantly being offered for sale due to a change in the vendors circumstances.
