DESCRIPTION

It is difficult to imagine the impact of the Jaguar E-Type when it was launched back in 1961. The looks, the style, the engine and the value for money were all to become stuff of legend. Even Enzo Ferrari was forced to comment that it was "The most beautiful car in the world" at the time.

With a top speed of 150 mph and a price tag of £2,196 for the Fixed Head Coupe, it was less than half the price of it's contemporaries from either Germany or Italy. The E-Type single handedly moved the goal posts and it set an entirely new agenda in the world of Sportscars.

In 1965 Jaguar refined the series 1 with the introduction of an ultra smooth 4.2 version of the classic 6 cylinder engine which was to become accepted as their best version ever produced. It now drove as good as it looked.

This particular car is one of the first 4.2's introduced and drives better today than when first produced.

Last year, on the instruction of our vendor, it was completely nut and bolt restored by the Jaguar enthusiast and legend, Ray Parrott, the 77 year old master craftman who's not hung up his tools just yet with a few more cars still in the pipeline! Finished in it's original ultra smart colour combination of Gunmetal Grey with Black leather it received a bare metal repaint as well as a full engine rebuild with all new parts used where necessary. The total cost of all this work exceeded £80,000. (bills on file).

It was found to be "mechanically excellent" and needed very few new body panels or major engine components, so solid was the original car. Sensible upgrades were incorporated by Ray which included fitting a Getrag 5 speed gearbox, Coopercraft front brake upgrade, Series 2 rear brake upgrade, Polybushing all the suspension and a new radiator with additional cooling fans. The engine was fully rebuilt and had a new big valve head fitted, combined with a stainless 6 branch exhaust manifold system and a full stainless exhaust system. We strongly recommend that you Google the name 'Ray Parrot Jaguar' to understand the significance of who he is and the significance of the E-Type's that he has restored in his later life time, particularly the last ever E-Type built which is well documented by Classic and Sportscar magazine.

This restoration is to a high standard and the USP of this car is the special way that it drives today. A stunning highly collectable car, offered at a fraction of the cost to the current vendor.
