DESCRIPTION
***Regretfully Withdrawn***
There have been volumes written on the E-Type, indeed there is no other British car, perhaps second only to the Mini, that has generated such a cult following. It is therefore our intention to concentrate on the many merits of this exceptional E-Type roadster on offer today. When the third owner took his 4.2 Series 1 fixed head coupe for restoration, he was offered the opportunity to convert the car to roadster specification. Not only was the car superbly restored, the engine rebuilt with VSE unleaded head and the interior re-trimmed, but the roadster conversion used new panels and parts to make it identical to a contemporary 4.2 roadster. The new, original specification, soft top fits perfectly to the windscreen with the period correct, roadster spec triple catches. The full new leather interior now has a superb patina in keeping with the rest of the car, the period dashboard and steering wheel. The paintwork was completely refreshed in the gleaming Carmen red you see today and the chassis and paint plates were reattached to the car. After the restoration was complete, the DVLA was notified of the car's new status and it is duly listed in the V5C as a convertible.
Today this E-Type presents itself in totally outstanding condition, but more importantly it's what's under the famous bonnet that counts. Of the numerous new parts and upgrades fitted during the restoration of particular note are the following; GAZ shock absorbers are part of the new suspension arrangements, four pot calliper brakes, a Kenlowe fan and a new synchro gearbox. The history file boasts numerous invoices attesting to the quality of the restoration and conversion, and included in the sale are the original E-Type 4.2 Owner's handbook, recent E-Type maintenance book, a weighty tome in itself, a copper hammer, jack and a wooden spinner remover.
When purchased by Kevin, the car's fourth owner, it needed a certain amount of re-commissioning, having been in storage for some eight years. The car was carefully worked on by respected racing motor engineer and restorer Giles Beck who carried out a major service and fitted a new battery. A copy of his report can be found in the history file. He is quoted as saying "After eight years of storage I found this car to be in remarkable condition which is testament to the superb restoration it has received. On a test drive I could find no faults. This is one of the best E Types I have driven."
With restored Series 1 E-Types soaring past the £150,000 mark, this car offers the buyer an opportunity to own, drive and enjoy one of the very best examples on offer at a third of the price. The car will be presented at auction freshly serviced, and has an MoT until March 2016, ready for roof-down summer motoring or continental touring.
