DESCRIPTION

The Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 to great acclaim and has become one of the worlds most enduring sportscar designs. The original 2.0 litre format made it expensive, but Porsche used the outgoing 1600cc unit from the 356 to address the issue and offered the 912 to an eager market.

The result was a car that had all the looks of the 911 but with inspiring handling, better balance and competitively priced. Launched in 1965 it outsold the 911 especially in the USA.

This exceptional example was first registered 22/12/1965, in the USA. The car was then imported in to the UK and registered in July 2009.

Subject to a nut and bolt chassis up restoration with receipts in excess of £35,000, the majority of the work was undertaken by Tower Bridge Classic Porsche with a £28,000 invoice to show for the work completed.

The interior of the car benefitted from a full interior re-trim, from Lakewell, along with new replica sports front seats from Rennsport, and new Coco mats. The engine preparation has been undertaken by Strasse Porsche in Leeds.

The car currently has an original rebuilt 912 engine dated 1967, which we are told runs very well. However the original matching numbers is engine supplied in the sale but will require rebuild work before it can be fitted back where it belongs. Also presented with the car is an excellent history file including invoices from well-known Porsche specialists for the work undertaken on the car.

This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a short wheel base 912, that has benefitted from an extensive restoration. With the prices of 911's continuing to rise and 912's followign the trend, this is a great chance to obtain early 911 styling at an affordable level...
