DESCRIPTION
First released in 1964 the iconic Ford Mustang created a storm when it hit the streets and it still does to this day. Ford wanted to make the Mustang affordable and therefore it needed to share much of it's engineering with an existing Ford product. They decided to base the Mustang on the smallest US Ford at the time, the Falcon. The Mustang was initially offered as either a "notchback' coupe or convertible. It shared its front double-wishbone/coil spring and leaf spring rear suspension with the Falcon. Compared to the Falcon its cockpit sat further back on the chassis, resulting in a longer front end and shorter rear design, and it is those proportions and details, like the running horse in the grill, the cut away side panel and the three section rear lights that have resulted in the Mustang enjoying iconic status.
This 1966 "A-Code, 289ci' Ford Mustang Fastback is presented in what is believed to be, excellent, mostly original, unrestored condition. Built at the San Jose, California plant (code R) on April 7th, 1966 and purchased by Mrs. M Wenger from Palm Springs Ford in Palm Springs, California.
Mrs. Wenger had the car serviced annually in San Jose and the complete service history, up to 39,000 miles, accompanies the car. Having spent it's life up to 1990 in California, the car was sold by the Wenger family and on to a collector in the Midwest who looked after it for the next 20 years.
It remained as part of a collection until being brought to the UK in the Autumn of 2014. The indicated mileage is 46,200 with the majority of these miles under the California Sun and after leaving Palm Springs it was driven very little.
This Mustang is finished in Springtime yellow complemented perfectly by the interior colour of parchment with black trim. The carpeting has been replaced and the front bucket seats have been reupholstered to factory OEM specification.
The car is fitted with the important options of power steering and power brakes and the factory air conditioning works perfectly (still R-12 Freon).
Documentation includes service records stating the mileage, handbook, insurance records, registration cards and more. The vehicle is UK Registered with the registration number SDL 573 having been chosen at some cost to match the format of the California original.
A superb genuine example with lovely history and bags of style.
