Ginetta began in Suffolk in the 1950s as a young Ivor Walklett joined his three older brothers to work in the family"s agricultural and structural engineering business and it wasn't long before his enthusiasm for cars led him to create a special based on a pre-war Wolseley Hornet. The Walklett"s car-making business became known as Ginetta, and that first, corner of the barn special, subsequently became known as the G1. A few years later, Ginetta really hit their stride with the G4, which became available as a kit at the beginning of the 1960s. Intended to be both a bare-bones road-going sports car and competitive racer, the G4 featured a tube frame chassis with double wishbones, coil springs and dampers up front along with a live axle with upper trailing arms, coil springs and dampers at the rear. The old adage “If it looks right, it is right” certainly applied to the astonishingly pretty little Ginetta and, fitted initially with the unburstable 1-litre Ford 105E Anglia engine and subsequently with a Lotus Twin-Cam, the G4 captured the imagination of the competition set and was raced with widespread success as far afield as the USA and Canada. On short circuits, it proved the match of Divas, Marcos and the nimble Lotus Elans and in the hands of the late Chris Meek would become famous for the 'David and Goliath' battles with much more powerful Jaguars and the occasional Ferrari.

Attractively finished in Orange and Silver we are pleased to offer this fully restored 1966 Ginetta G4. In our vendor's words;

“ I have just finished the complete restoration of an original car to a fast road/ race spec Owned for 10 years and finally finished! Was built to go racing in CSCC or HSCC but my other cars mean it's unlikely to be used to its potential and think it should go to another owner to enjoy. Restored chassis by Ginetta Heritage and a newly painted body with hardtop, new front and rear screens and new front and rear lights. There is an FIA 'rain light' on the new race-spec rollbar.

Brand new semi-race 1500 pre-crossflow on twin Webers built by Throbnozzle. Rebored 120E block with balanced conrods and forged pistons etc. all bills and spec to prove. Just rolling-roaded and set up by Craig Beck Racing.

BGH Geartech Ltd. rebuilt 2000E box with Lotus-spec baulk rings etc, quick -shift gear lever, lightened TTV flywheel and new clutch. New manifold and silencer from Dare. New alloy Radtech radiator with silicone hoses. All new wiring, switches, and gauges.

New large long-range fuel tank. All new brakes and lines with a balance bar. Extinguisher system fitted.

New 3.9 LSD. New 5 1/2 Minilites with new 185 Toyo R888s. Comes with side windows but just not fitted

Finished this year by Iain Daniels Motorsport and now registered on an age-related plate so manufactured 1966 but 1st registration is 2019.

Just completed a track test and so ready to race or road. New MoT. Would need new seatbelts and extinguisher to be in date for racing.

There is a letter from the original owner and from the Ginetta Owner's Club to confirm its identity and in addition, we have a huge history file with every copy invoice from the restoration including a copy invoice for the chassis restoration by Ginetta Heritage @ £9,000“

This is a super opportunity to own a well prepared, race-ready, historic Ginetta that is eligible for a number of championships, would be welcome anywhere, and is on offer at about a quarter the price of a Chevron B8!!
