SUMMARY

On offer from The Devon Collection.

DESCRIPTION

  • This Series 1, matching numbers, E-Type was built to special order for Hugh John Vaughan Campbell, the 6th Earl of Cawdor, leaving the factory in November 1965
  • The specification at that time included a balanced engine, Koni dampers, Competition Wire Wheels, Restall Reclining Seats and a Webasto Roof which later proved to be the wisest addition of all, saving the Earl’s life!
  • After leaving Browns Lane, the next stop was Abbey Panels where 1E21103 was to become the second of, possibly three, ‘Quad Headlight’ E-Types produced
  • Some 18 months later, a severe accident saw the lucky Earl ejected through the aforementioned Webasto roof with the damaged E-type being placed in storage where it remained for almost 40 years
  • Upon discovery, a complete rebuild and overhaul followed bringing this rare E-type back to life to be used extensively for touring and general rallies in the following years,
  • Having formed part of The Devon Collection in recent years, a change in direction by the present custodian provides a rare opportunity for a Jaguar enthusiast / Classic Car Collector to acquire part of E-type history
  • It's accompanied by an interesting history file detailing the cars noble past, a Heritage Certificate and freshly issued MOT Certificate
  • Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to acquaint yourself with this very rare Jaguar

A very well known E Type with an interesting past that is extremely well documented. Built to order for the 6th Earl of Cawdor, Hugh John Vaughan Campbell , the Fixed Head Coupe’s first journey after rolling off  the production line towards the end of 1965, was to Abbey panels where the modifications were carried out culminating in this rather intriguing quad headlight arrangement, which upon closer inspection is actually very pleasing on the eye. We are lead to believe that two other examples were produced around the same time but there whereabouts remains unknown. After quite a severe accident in its early days, the car was stored until discovered some years later at which time another trip to Abbey Panels ensued with the damaged panels being rectified as required.  In more recent years, the E Type has formed part of The Devon Collection sitting amongst other notable examples and as such has had little use so a small amount of recommissioning may be required to return this very interesting and desirable ‘design exercise’ to the road. Certainly a head turner to the uninitiated but also a desirable and much sought after Jaguar that would be welcomed at almost any ‘classic’ event or would be equally at home residing in a Jaguar lovers collection. A rare opportunity indeed.
