DESCRIPTION
First introduced in 1959, the Mini is the most famous small car in the world. The inventor, Sir Alec Issigonis, and friend, John Cooper, could both see the potential of the car in competition and their joint vision lead to the Morris Mini Cooper first appearing in 1961. Their development efforts and innovative approach eventually led to the Austin Mini Cooper S appearing in 1963, and they went on to claim world wide success in both rallying and racing with the versatile and nimble Mini. The Cooper S's iconic appeal as a sportier version of the Mini was specifically underlined by it's success at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967, as well as it's appearance in the 1967 British film, 'The Italian Job', in which Minis and Mini Coopers play a key role in a bank heist.
Built on the 9th June 1966, this example originally left the factory as a standard Morris Mini Cooper MkI. The car has been subject to an extensive restoration uprating it to Cooper S specification, that began in 2013 and was recently completed in 2015.
The car was stripped to a bare shell, taken back to bare metal and any corrosion removed where necessary before being painted in it's original colour combination of Island Blue & Old English White.
The running gear was reassembled on to the rolling shell using new and refurbished suspension and brakes to ensure the car is as good underneath as it is on top.
Under the bonnet the engine was completely rebuilt and uprated to Cooper S 1275cc specification along with the gearbox by marque specialists, Southam Mini Center at a cost of £3891.
Inside the car was subject to similar treatment and a full interior re-trim was undertaken in the original Cumulus Grey.
Presented with the car is a history file containing a wealth of invoices showing that no expense has been spared during it's restoration.
With all the hard work done for you, this excellent Mini is now ready to be enjoyed and used as intended.
