DESCRIPTION
The Chevrolet Camaro first appeared on sale in September 1966 and was a 2+2 available with both coupe and convertible bodies. It shared the same chassis and many other components from the Pontiac Firebird and a wide range of engine options were available, from the base model 230-cubic inch straight six to a 427-cubic inch V8. The Camaro RS 'Rally Sport' was offered to the general public as a desirable option package on the standard Camaro. Additional features included a new grill, 'hideaway' headlamps, wider body mouldings, unique emblems and Rally wheels with redline tyres.
This original 'black plate' 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS Coupe was initially registered to a Mr J.A.Hlarae of Palm Springs, California. It remained in Mr Hlarae's ownership for over forty years, covering what is believed to be a genuine 57,000 miles, until it was restored over a two year period from 2009-2011 by Wayne Artello of Classic Restorations, Nevada to original specification. There are bills and receipts in the history file for numerous works, totalling over $10,000 in parts alone.
The car was purchased by the current owner in 2011 in California and was then brought to the UK and registered here. REU 169E remains in stunning condition with straight body panels and excellent paintwork, as one would expect from a one stateside owner, rust-free example. The original engine, a 327 cubic-inch 5.4 litre V8, has been rebuilt and starts on the button and the car is supplied with a current MoT test certificate until November 2012.
This Camaro 'RS' represents true muscle car performance, whilst retaining an original charm that is rarely found outside of the USA. The quality of the restoration simply must be seen to be appreciated.
