DESCRIPTION
This beautifully presented right-hand drive Series I 4.2-litre E-Type Roadster was shipped new to Hong Kong, where it was first registered to a Mr F C Furci on 1st May 1967. He obviously enjoyed his Jaguar as he kept it until 31st October 1979 when it was sold to Mr Cheung Ho. Just over a year later, on 19th November 1979, its new owner was one Connor Miles John O’Brien, still in HK, before he returned with it to the UK to be first registered here on 18th April 1984. (N.B. there is a documented change of speedo head in May 1984 at just over 45,000 miles). The Jaguar was restored at this time and finished in Carmen Red with a black leather interior. On 1st March 1985 the car is recorded as being purchased from XK Engineering by A D Monk and further changes include Laurence Ben-Nathan on 2nd November 1996 and Patrick Farmer on 20th May 2006.
In terms of vehicle history, we have never seen anything quite like the information that accompanies this patently cherished roadster. There are two A4 binders full of receipts, letters, servicing records etc, in addition to a typed 23-page detailed historical information article about expenditure on the car both here and in Hong Kong. A total of 122 entries have been made going from £3.45 ('June 1986, Martin E Robey, Nuneaton – One set of headlight screws') to invoices in the tens of thousands. We wouldn’t attempt to list all that here but interested parties are encouraged to view the history file at our Documents Desk.
In terms of substantial expenditure, in September 2011, the Jaguar sustained rear damage having been hit in traffic by a white van. What seemed initially to be a repair, morphed into a restoration which resulted in a cosmetic body bill for £44,738.77 plus an additional amount of £3,374.61 to be paid by the owner (presumably for replacement parts and enhancements that weren’t part of the insurance claim). At the same time, renowned specialists, CKL Developments, refreshed the engine, gearbox and rear axle. The quality of this restoration was high and the car today, some 13 years on, still presents very well.
The Jaguar was purchased by our vendor in November 2020 and in April 2021 was entrusted to XK specialists, Twyford Moors, to go through the car and sort out any minor issues. Their invoice details work to the engine mounts, trailing arm bushes, ARB bushes, front suspension bushes, new exhaust system, new manifolds, fit new alternator, new cigar lighter, new radio, 123 electronic ignition, USB socket, gaskets, hoses and lots more (see invoice) and totalled £12,513. Now back on top form, this gleaming Carmen Red roadster sits on wider-rimmed wire wheels, shod with 205/70/15 tyres and looks all the better for it. A recent test drive showed the Jaguar to perform very well indeed, with a smooth ride and excellent sound track.
Accompanied by its JDHT Certificate, two box files full of receipts, the aforementioned maintenance records detailing the simply incredible amount of care lavished on this remarkable E-Type and a copy of the Jaguar Enthusiast magazine in which the car is featured - this is one not to be missed.
