DESCRIPTION
It is difficult to imagine the impact that the Jaguar E-type had when it was launched back in 1961. When the average saloon had a top speed of 70 mph and most were desperately dull, the E-type was an instant sensation, pre-empting computer aided design. The pre-eminent aerodynamist Malcom Sayer uniquely applied complex mathematical formulae to create the stunning E-type shape. Ironically, he hated being called a stylist, yet he designed what is arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever seen. Today, manufacturers build hundreds of prototypes when developing a new car; Jaguar built just a handful of cars prior to launch and the story of the E-type is legendary around the globe. With its top speed of 150 mph and a price tag of £2196 for the FHC, it was less than half the price of any of its contemporaries from either Italy or Germany. The E-type moved the goal posts and it set an entirely new agenda. The Series 1 is by far the prettiest E-type whether open, coupe or 2 + 2. The glass headlamp covers and the pre-US front and rear lights combine with a proper Jaguar dashboard that the later cars just didn't get. This original right-hand drive Series 1 E-Type was sold new by S.H. Newsome Jaguar Dealership, Coventry on 27th June 1967 to a Dr P.Y. Carlyle. A full DVLA breakdown of registration documents and owners detail the car's interesting history here in the UK. In 1995, a full engine, clutch and transmission rebuild was carried out by Geoffrey Walker on behalf of a previous owner. However, Mr Walker eventually took ownership of JVC 919E in 2010 and undertook a number of improvements. These included a full external bare metal respray, an engine rebuild with new bearing shells and gaskets, new clutch, new radiator, stainless steel exhaust, new 321 performance distributor and new cylinder head. In addition, the car benefits from a thermostatically controlled Kenlowe fan and Zeus front brakes have been fitted. Sadly, there are limited bills to prove some of these works, however, the car fires on the button and is one of the smoothest Jaguar engines we have heard in a long time, retaining good oil pressure. The history file boasts MoT test certificates dating back to the 1990s and numerous bills for works carried out. Supplied with a Heritage Certificate and offered as a most useable example of a British icon, this Series 1 2+2 would make an ideal everyday classic.
