DESCRIPTION
The name of Mallock has been associated with British motorsport since the sixties, from the earliest clubman racers to Le Mans Prototypes, British Touring and World Touring Cars. The company was founded by Arthur Mallock and was continued by his two sons, Ray and Richard. By 1984 the company was known as the RML Group, a race engineering and design resource that would become involved with many of the world's Automotive Manufacturers in all forms of motorsport. In 1983/4 Ray Mallock helped develop the Aston Martin Nimrod Group C car and provided the Ecurie Ecosse C2 for David Leslie to win the Championship in 1986. Various British Touring Car titles followed in the nineties. By 2000 the RML Group was becoming involved with FIA GT's and the European Le Mans Series. For 2004 RML ran MG-Lola's winning the LMP2 class in 2005 and 2006 and titles in 2007/10. Mallock Sports which has been run by Richard Mallock and his wife Sue continue to produce Clubmans cars and provide back up and restoration facilities for Mallock cars built from the Mk 2's through to the current Mk 34's.
Offered here today is one of the earlier Mallock racing cars, a 1967 U2 Lotus Twin Cam MK 6B. This car was purchased by the current owner in 1997 from the long term owner, Martin Pratt, who had used the car mainly for sprints in the North West, he also won the All North West Sprint Championship in the late seventies. It was previously owned by Ian Prutruneovitch who both raced and sprinted the car. Its earlier history is uncertain due to the fact that Arthur Mallock's records were by no means comprehensive.
These cars were used in both Formula 2 and Clubmans specification and competed in International Formula 2 events in 1967, usually qualifying marginally behind the more exotic Brabham's, Lola's and Lotuses. Today, a Mallock could put you well up the grid for a fraction of the cost of running those sorts of cars; simple maintenance and good backup from Mallock is all that is required.
This car has the attraction of being totally restored with no expense spared by Richard Mallock at Mallock Sports in 2004/2005 to a naturally, very exacting standard. A dyno print-out shows the Twin Cam producing 170 reliable bhp.
The spares comprise 3 front axles, springs of different rates, 2 rear axle casings and a complete rear brake assembly. Various half shafts and 2 spare differentials of different ratios to suit both hill climbing and racing are included. There is a spare Lotus Twin Cam engine requiring a full rebuild. Spare Minilite wheels and two spare nosecones complete the package.
This is a very fine Mallock, restored beautifully by the original manufacturer with various forms of great motorsport events available to it. It has been used in the HSCC classic racing car series and carries HSCC eligibility papers. It could be used either as a classic Clubmans car or in its current
