DESCRIPTION
The Mercedes Benz 250SL was the successor to the popular 230SL, it was first introduced to the public at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show. The brief production run ended a year later in January 1968, because of this short run the 250 SL is the rarest of the W 113 (Pagoda) series cars.
The 250 SL retained the stiffer suspension and sportier feel of the early SLs, but provided improved agility with a new 150bhp, 7 bearing engine. It also came with rear disc brakes. The range was also improved with the increased fuel tank capacity which went up from 65 Litres to 82 Litres. The 250SL was similar to the 230SL and was offered with a 4-speed automatic, a 4-speed manual box or the ZF 5-speed. For the first time an optional limited slip differential was also available. Mercedes produced 5,196 250 SLs of which more than a third were sold in the US.
This 1967, 250SL Pagoda was recently imported into the UK by our vendor as he was looking for a good solid "warm climate' car. It is presented in LHD, with a manual gearbox and in the desirable red with tan interior colour combination.
Recently a full service has been undertaken on the car, which included checking the brakes, suspension and engine before the vendor took the car to the fabulous Le Mans Classic event in France. We are told the car coped with the long trip with no problems and that it drove beautifully all the way there... and back!
The vendor tells us that the interior and dashboard woodwork could benefit from some improvement and that the paintwork has some small chips and there is a little bubbling on the bonnet and boot of the car. The soft top has not been used for a long while since the vendor uses the contrasting black hardtop for the majority of time, due to this the soft top would need replacing.
