DESCRIPTION

First introduced to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, the Porsche 911 is now celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. From its original production car base the 911 has become one of the most successful competition cars of all time, both as a circuit racer and rally car. As early as 1965 the 'Works' entered a 911 SWB in the Monte Carlo Rally, within two years Vic Elford was winning rounds in the European Championship. The title was won for Porsche in 1968 by Pauli Toivonen when he took the European Rally Championship. So it comes as no surprise that the 2.0 litre Porsche 911 SWB has become the mainstay of historic rallying today.

With 160 bhp on tap in standard road trim the 911S is fast with a top speed of around 130 mph, reliable and relatively inexpensive to run

This 1967 Porsche 911S was subject to substantial work by Porsche rally expert, Francis Tuthill, at the beginning of 2008 in preparation for the owners' participation in the Tour Britannia. The engine was removed and a fifty-hour full engine rebuild was undertaken, the invoice on file showing the extent of the work. The engine number shows it to be an early 2.0litre from 1964/65. The gearbox was also totally rebuilt and included the fitting of 901 Plate type limited slip differential and new gear sets for third, fourth and fifth. It was then fully prepared to be rally ready by Tuthill and to be presented to obtain its FIA papers. Set up for tarmac and gravel, Graeme and Paul Jennings finished eighteenth overall. Most recently it took part in the 2012 Craigantlet Hill Climb in Ireland and finished 3rd in class.
