LHD 1967 Triumph TR4 A

In 1960, Standard Triumph tasked Italian designer Michelotti with restyling its ageing TR3 range, and the product of his fluid pen was the delightful TR4 which entered production in late 1961. This good looking roadster was powered by a torquey 2,138cc four cylinder, twin carb engine mated to an all-synchro, four speed gearbox and was a wonderful mix of British brawn and Italian flair.

After four years of production however, it was decided to develop the TR4 even further and the chassis was redesigned to accept independent rear suspension, in place of the earlier live axle, resulting in more predictable handling and an improved ride. This new model was christened the TR4A and by the time production ceased in 1968, some 28,450 4As had been sold, with the vast majority being exported to the USA.

This gleaming red, left-hand drive, 1967 TR4A is one such, having been imported from Oregon, where it was part of a collection of five TR4s, earlier this year. Our vendor tells us that this car has undergone a complete, high quality restoration on what was originally a very solid car. The car is in excellent mechanical condition with all the suspension and brakes having been rebuilt, the gearbox and drivetrain are smooth and quiet and the overhauled engine with its Triumphtune head is crisp, quiet and pulls well.

The sparkling Red paint is a result of a well applied base coat with a clear coat of very high quality. It's smooth and has good depth and is finished properly even under the bonnet and in the boot. The paint quality certainly exceeds the original factory finish supplied by Triumph and our vendor believes that the paint and bodywork would cost at least £10K to replicate today. The interior has been restored with the same attention to detail with new leather and carpets, the wooden dash is excellent and the entire cabin is well fitted and exudes quality. All the chrome is excellent with the front and rear bumpers having been re-chromed and the grille and lights look factory fresh.

The vehicle has had all import duty paid, has been registered on an age related plate and is MoT'd until June 2016.

It comes with handbooks, an early brochure and other paperwork in a history file.

All in all, a fabulous TR4A.
