DESCRIPTION

Keeping with its tradition, Triumph introduced its model TR4A in 1965. The 4A was altered just slightly from the TR4 in order to address complaints about ride comfort. Therefore, about the only difference between the TR4A and the TR4 was the use of an independent rear suspension instead of the live rear axle. TR4A's produced with the new independent rear suspension were marked with a badge that had the letters 'IRS'.

The addition of the independent rear suspension with the many other changes of the TR4 made the car very popular and even successful on the race track. The track of the TR4 was enlarged and rack-and-pinion steering was utilized. This helped to make the car handle much more predictable and stable. The transmission had been fully synchronized and the 2.1-liter, overhead valve, four-cylinder engine of the TR3A had also been enlarged and became capable of producing just over 104 bhp.

This particular Triumph TR4A has been the subject of a no expense spared rebuild in 2013 by the vendor and the result is simply breath taking, the red bodywork is faultless with not a single stone chip, the body shell was repainted inside and out and completely stone chipped and rust proofed throughout in 2013. The external appearance is then complimented by new chromework throughout and looks absolutely stunning.

Also worth mentioning is the inclusion of a Surrey hard top, the term refers to and optional soft top panel that could be fitted in place of the solid centre section of the roof and pre dated Porsches 911 Targa by five years.

We are informed by the vendor that 4As chassis can rot because it flexes around the 'wasps waist' near the rear suspension, no such concerns with this car as a brand new chassis was supplied by CTM Engineering LTD in July of 2013. This was the start point for this amazing nut and bolt photographic rebuild.

Under the bonnet its concours, with coolant and oil to level and clean and finished to a higher standard than when the car left the factory, with shiny paint finishes and shiny chromed parts, it's the sharpness of detail that really impresses. We are informed the engine fires instantly and burbles off down the road with a typical throaty roar, the whole plot is taut, yet supple, with no clonks rattle or play

Likewise the attention to detail has been carried over into the cabin with a better than new appearance of dash, seating and carpets and creates a beautiful place to pilot the car from. The car has been sensibly modified with servo brakes, electric fan, electronic ignition, gas shock absorbers all round, thin belt upgraded water pump and pulleys.

A nice touch to this car is the way the vendor has put together a chronological history file that outlines every penny that has been spent on the car (£20,000 plus in parts alone), along with a superb photographic record, pick up this history file and you will know exactly what you're getting in black and white and colour. Sold with a new MOT for auction, if you're looking for a totally restored car that has award winning potential this is definitely a top notch example that will not disappoint.
