1968 Benelli Sprite Super Sport

After losing her husband, widow Teresa Benelli invested all of the family capital into starting Benelli in 1911, so her six sons could work in the business. Giuseppe, a very gifted engineer, became disillusioned by the problems of a six way partnership and left in 1949 and started manufacturing as Motobi. He introduced a revolutionary horizontal, lightweight aluminium two stroke engine. In the 1950s Giuseppe developed an all aluminium four stroke overhead valve whose profile resembled an egg or rugby ball. Guiseppe died in 1957 and 6 years later Motobi merged with Benelli. Motobis continued production but were badged as Benelli.

This 1968 Benelli Sprite 125cc Sport Special has Motobi stamped on the inside of the crankcase covers and other parts. This is a very rare 1968 Benelli Sprite Super Sport, and at the time of production it was the fastest and best handling 125cc of its era.

It was last taxed on the 30th November 2007 and since then it has been kept in dry storage. The current owner bought it in November 2012. It has undergone a frame off restoration to what some would consider absolutely excellent condition. It runs and handles superbly as if new, the ultimate small engine cafe racer.

Supplied with an MOT which proves it is not just a show piece but can be used as intended. There is a V5C and workshop manual (reprint)
