1967 Jaguar 340

The Mk II Jaguar Saloon was a development, or maybe it is better described as an evolution, of the earlier Saloon, that was retrospectively known as the Mk I. The Mark 1 had been phased out in 1959. It was offered with engines from the now legendary XK series varying from 2.4 litres upto, eventually, 3.8 litres. The Mk II was then phased out in September 1967 to be replaced by two 'engine sized' models, known as the 240 and 340 respectively, denoting 2.4 and 3.4 litre versions of the same well proven straight six engine, albeit in enhanced states of tune over the out going Mk II variants.

This 340 saloon seems an eminently useable proposition. Presenting very well with what appears to be its original paint work, it benefits from being fitted, from new, with the extra cost option of an automatic gear box and wire wheels. Some may not approve of the auto-box, but, with the inherent power of the 3400cc XK engine and the luxurious interior, this option makes this car a leisurely and smooth luxury express which even today will eat motorway miles with ease while, at the same time, being able to both keep up with and better still stop alongside contemporary traffic. The car's interior looks almost as though the rear passenger compartment has never been ridden in!

The vendor reports that he has had the car on the road regularly, and intends for it to come to the auction with a brand new MOT and exempt status road fund licence. Upon cataloguing it started well and offered no causes for concern. Looking impressively original at today's guide price, it would be hard to get a more stylish entry into classic Jaguar motoring.
