1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

The Mercedes 280SL "Pagoda' was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through until February 1971.The W113 was then replaced by its successor, the entirely new and substantially heavier R107 350SL. Over the years, the W113 evolved from a "sports car' into a comfortable "grand tourer', and was usually equipped with the 4-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. The obvious change from its predecessor was the upgrade to the 2778cc M130 engine, which purists will tell you, finally gave the Pagoda adequate power. Now suitably refined, the car proved popular in the US market, however we've recently seen a significant increase in demand here in the UK, partly due to the 190SL rising beyond the budgets of many.

Offered here is a 280SL Pagoda delivered new in 1968 to its first owner in Florida, USA. Presented in brown with a tan leather interior, this car is the result of a full "nut & bolt' restoration over the past 2 years by international restorers, the Byrnes Motor Trust, and the gold hardtop and hub caps give it distinctive look. The car is currently at Mercedes specialist, Silchester Garage, having a full inspection, minor remedial work, a service and a tune-up.

The car has been NOVA'd and any import duties paid, so any prospective buyer will need to register it with the DVLA to obtain a UK V5c and registration. It will also arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT certificate.

In summary, this is a fine example of a popular classic where all the hard work has already been done, and all that's left to do is turn the key, sit back and enjoy the ride!
