1969 Lancia Flavia 2000 Coupe 820 Pininfarina

The Lancia Flavia was produced from 1961 until 1971 and, as well as the saloon, the range eventually included Coupe and convertible versions designed by Pininfarina and Vignale respectively. Performance improved over the ten year period as the engine size increased, progressively, to 2000 cc. The car remained in production until 1970, when it was updated and renamed the Lancia 2000.

The Flavia was developed by Professor Antonio Fessia in the late 1950s, and when production commenced, only the four door saloon was available for sale. These early models were powered by a 1.5L aluminium boxer engine driving through the front wheels and Dunlop disc brakes were fitted all round.

Towards the end of the 1960s, when Fiat took control of the company, the coupé and saloon versions were redesigned and these new models were unveiled in March, 1969 at the Geneva Motor Show. The engine was increased to 2.0 litres in capacity and could be specified with carburettors or fuel injection, and a four or five speed gearbox. This Engine/ Transmission combination was only available with the revised Pininfarina Coupe and Lancia Sedan.

This lovely example is a later 1969 model with the updated, and arguably, far prettier 2-door Pininfarina body that shares a lot of Ferrari influences.

Presented in superb condition all round, this car is fitted with the rare, optional 5 speed dog-leg gearbox and when combined with the 2 litre boxer engine the Flavia becomes very capable and sprightly indeed.

The car, we are told preforms as it should, and recently made a 1500km journey from Zug, Switzerland to Cornwall without fault.
