1969 Lotus Elan S4 SE Cabriolet

The Lotus Elan was first introduced in 1962 as a roadster and then as a coupé version in 1965. Over the years the Elan evolved into the Series 4, which was introduced in 1968. The S4 model benefited a range of subtle upgrades along with the more noticeable upgraded bodyshell that was slightly thinner and lighter than the S3's, and flared wheel arches allowing for wider wheels.

The Elan was technically advanced with its twin-cam 1558cc engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and 4-wheel independent suspension. It could reach 60mph in just 7.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 122mph. SE variants featured an increased power output of 118bhp and an upgraded close ratio gearbox.

It is estimated that fewer than 1,200 of these cars remain on the roads today. The lightweight, powerful and agile performance make the Elan a great car to drive and even nowadays there are few cars more satisfying to drive.

This particular Lotus Elan is a cabriolet S4, SE model that was first registered in 1969. The previous owner purchased the car from Paul Matty Sportscars back in 2005, before the vendor purchased the car in 2011.

Throughout its lifespan this Elan has benefited from large amounts of mechanical which includes a replacement chassis and a full engine rebuild by Oselli Power. In more recent times the vendor has carried out further significant work by commissioning a full re-spray of the car in the original yellow colour, along with the fitment of a new hood, windscreen and professionally refurbished wheels.

Accompanying the car is a history file, which includes many invoices from marque specialists, including the invoices from renowned specialist Paul Matty Sportscars dating back to 1990, along with previous service records, MOTs, and an original owner's manual.
