1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Coupe

The Mercedes W111 Coupes offer a unique combination of unrivalled glamour combined with equally unrivalled build quality. The 280 SE Coupe was introduced in 1967 as a more powerful replacement for the 250SE and, in total 3797 were produced, they represented an extremely expensive car when new.

We are informed by the vendor that this particular car has been in Beverley Hills, California until 2005, remaining in the ownership of Karl Von Fielder for over twenty years, since arriving in the UK this Mercedes has only had three recorded keepers from new and the mileage of 87516 is believed to be correct. In terms of condition this particular Mercedes is exceptional throughout, the vendor informs us that paintwork is extremely well presented with excellent panel gaps, the windscreen and door rubbers have all recently been replaced and points to a car that has been a prized possession over the years.

Mechanically this car has benefitted from unstinting expenditure to ensure that it remains in superb order throughout, the vendor reports that there are extensive bills and paperwork going back to 2001 that detail, regular servicing, a rebuilt transmission and cylinder head, new cooling system and most recently, the renewal of the entire braking system in 2011.

Inside, this 280 SE is in superb and largely original condition, the black leather trim is all original and unworn but with a light and pleasing patina, the carpets were replaced in 2006 with a quality set from Klaus Hermann Mayer Kraftfahrzeughtechnik, all electrics work exactly as they should including the desirable Becker Mexico.

There are not many 1960s designed cars that provide a driving experience that is truly acceptable once the classic aura is taken out of the equation, but this W111 is an honourable exception. The classic dashboard elements are part of the enjoyment of this car, the thin steering wheel with its chromed horn ring defines the lavish Mercedes Benz interiors.
