SUMMARY

A beautiful, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Pagoda.

DESCRIPTION

UK RHD in an elegant colour combination with a factory hardtop Complete history file. Rally and Treffen plates. Event trophies and more Maintained by Mercedes-Benz and renowned specialist John Haynes Power steering and the well-regarded automatic transmission Previously displayed on Mercedes-Benz stand at Goodwood The Mercedes-Benz 280SL 'Pagoda' was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through until February 1971 when it was replaced by its successor, the all-new, but substantially heavier, R107 350SL. Over the years, the W113 quietly evolved from a nimble 'sports car' into a comfortable 'grand tourer' and was usually equipped with four-speed automatic transmission. The final evolution of the Pagoda was the 280SL, launched in November 1967 with a host of technical improvements, and is now seen as the most refined iteration of the series. The robust new seven-bearing, 2778cc, M130 engine developed 170bhp and perfectly suited the automatic transmission. New one-piece wheel trims distinguished the last W113 but alloys were now an option. Offered here is a beautiful example of the W113 Pagoda 280SL dating from 1969 and finished in the factory 'works' colour of Silver Grey Metallic with a black leather interior. It's a very original, UK-supplied example fitted with a 2'8-litre engine and automatic gearbox. The comprehensive and well-detailed history file shows that it has been maintained to a very high standard by Mercedes-Benz main dealer Malaya and renowned specialist John Haynes. This lovely SL has been enjoyed by just four previous owners with the most recent from 1986. Judging by the number of Rally Plates and event trophies with the car, it has been used and displayed with pride. The car is so spectacularly good that Mercedes-Benz borrowed it to use on their stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2002. The specification includes power steering, black soft top, body colour factory 'Pagoda' hardtop, and the rare original Becker 'Monza' radio cassette. This is a really superb example of a timeless classic in the top-of-the-range specification, tastefully presented, on the button, and just oozing style.
